Frequently Asked Questions

What are some common reasons to seek counseling?
The most common reason to seek counseling is if you feel anxious or depressed over a situation in life or you feel "stuck" or dissatisfied with the direction you are going. It could be perhaps you want more personal growth or healing. Then again it could be a marital struggle; frustrations with your children; or a recent trauma that has occurred to you. Those are all great reasons to seek out counseling services.

LifeSolutions Counseling Assoc. P.C. - therapists and counselorsWhat is counseling like?
A typical session lasts somewhere between forty-five minutes to an hour. During these sessions, the therapist will discuss with you the primary issues and concerns that have brought you to counseling and assist you in gaining clarity in these issues. Your goals will be discussed along with the progress being made towards those goals. The therapist may ask you to work in between sessions, applying what was discussed in therapy. For therapy to be most effective you must be an active participant, both during and between the sessions.

What happens in a first counseling session?
The first counseling session may be a little different from the rest of your other sessions. In the first session, you and your therapist will become more acquainted with one another and you will discuss the issues that have brought you to counseling. Your therapist may ask you some questions about your background and the goals you would like to establish for yourself. You will also go over the process of counseling and the therapist will want to answer any question you may have concerning this process. By the end of the first few sessions, there should be a plan established between your therapist and you on how you will be accomplishing these goals both in and out of counseling.

Is counseling confidential?
Overall, the therapist is not able to share any information that occurs in session with anyone outside of the session. No information is disclosed without prior written permission from the client. However, there are some exceptions required by law to this rule and these are listed in our HIPPA Notice of Privacy Practices that is listed on this website and provide to you when you visit our office.

The most common exceptions include the following:

  • Suspected child abuse or dependant adult or elder abuse. The therapist is required by law to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.

  • If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to themselves or to another person. The therapist is required to take actions to protect you and anyone else that may be in harm's way.

  • If you plan on using your insurance—in some cases, insurance companies require us to send them a diagnosis, goals, and how we plan on making progress towards those goals. We do not share specific details of the session with the insurance companies.

If you ever have questions or concerns about confidentiality, please be sure to ask your counselor.

What hours are you available?
Each therapist has their own office hours and so it will depend on whom you will be seeing. However, our office is open from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm throughout the weekdays and 9:00 am to 3:00 pm on Saturdays.

What is your cancellation policy?
We require that a client call 24 hours in advance to cancel an appointment. If it is within 24 hours of the appointment, it is considered a "no show" appointment and you will be charged a $75 fee. There are some circumstances that a therapist will take into consideration when assessing this fee.

How do I use my insurance with LifeSolutions Counseling?
When you call to establish an appointment, our office staff will take your insurance information and contact the insurance company for you to receive authorization for therapy. Our therapists are paneled by several insurance companies and will take care of submitting a claim to your insurance company for the counseling sessions. You will be expected to pay your co-payment at the start of the appointment along with any balance that the insurance company does not cover.
